  • While silencing ZmTAT or ZmNQO1, the gene involved in vitamin E or K biosynthesis, inhibited MCMV and S + M infections, likely by regulating the expressions of pathogenesis-related (PR) genes.
  • The results demonstrated that the expression of ZmTAT, ZmHPPD, and ZmHGGT, three upstream genes related to vitamin E biosynthesis, were significantly upregulated, while the downstream gene ZmTOMC was significantly downregulated in SCMV-, MCMV-, and S + M-infected maize plants, especially in S + M.
