  • The expression of ZmEXPB15 is under the direct control of two nucellus-enriched genes, ZmNAC11/ZmNAC29, which control kernel size by a similar mechanism.
  • ZmNAC11 and ZmNAC29, activate ZmEXPB15 expression. Accordingly, these two TFs also promote kernel size and weight through nucellus elimination regulation.
  • ZmEXPB15 acts genetically with ZmNAC11 and ZmNAC29 to control kernel weight.
  • Mutations in ZmNAC11 and ZmNAC29 cause similar kernel defects to zmexpb15.
