  • The maize inbred and hybrid lines overexpressing ZmCPK35 and ZmCPK37 exhibited enhanced tolerance and increased yield under drought conditions.
  • Overexpression of ZmCPK35 and ZmCPK37 increased S-type anion currents in guard cells and promoted stomatal closure in responses to ABA and Ca2+, which improved maize drought tolerance.
  • ZmSLAC1 activated by ZmCPK35 and ZmCPK37 was able to mediate both NO3- and Cl- currents.
