- We also demonstrate the utility of this new genome by using it to clone the first maize kernel weight QTL, ZmBAM1d, which was targeted for selection during maize improvement.
- ZmBAM1d regulates seed development through pathways affecting determinacy and carbohydrate metabolism.
- ZmBAM1d positively regulates corn kernel weight, and overexpression and knockout of this gene had no effect on other agronomic traits.
