- Expression patterns of related genes bd1, zmm14 and Si1 that control inflorescence development
- Silky1 (Si1) and sterile tassel silky ear1 (sts1), the maize homologs of the Arabidopsis B-class genes, also regulate the development of floral organs in the second and third whorls.
- Si1 was a B-class gene involved in the development of second and third whorl organs, loss-of-function Si1 mutants exhibited homeotic transformation of floral organs.
- In Si3 tassel spikelets, the expression level of Si1 was significantly decreased relative to the wild type, but there was no change in its expression domains.
