- We found that the PIL protein TaPIL1 controls tiller number in wheat.
- Overexpression of TaPIL1 reduces wheat tiller number; additionally, overexpression of TaPIL1-SUPERMAN repression domain increases wheat tiller number.
- TaPIL1 represses wheat tillering.
- These results indicated that TaPIL1 represses wheat tillering by upregulating the expression of TaTB1.
- The fused repression motif SRDX allows TaPIL1 to increase wheat tiller number.
