Functional Descriptions:

  • S. lycopersicum AINTEGUMENTA (ANT) homologue (SlANT2) favour the ovule initiation, whereas high levels of SlANT2 promote placental carpelization.
  • Only SlANT2 was found to be significantly up-regulated in young flower buds and in the slcrca41 mutant.
  • SlANT2 overexpression (OE-SlANT2) significantly inhibited the ovule formation (Figure 4e,f) and resulted in the appearance of trichome-like structures on the surface of the placentas, which are usually found in the fruit exocarp, suggesting a carpelloid property of the placenta in OE-SlANT2.
