Functional Descriptions
- SlCIPK7, the functional homolog of CIPK8 in tomato (Solanum lycopersicum), plays a similar role in ABA-responsive stomatal movement.
- Consistent with the homologous function between Arabidopsis CIPK8 and SlCIPK7, ABA-hypersensitive stomatal closure in cipk8-1 was rescued to the level of wild type by exogenous expression of SlCIPK7.
- The SlCIPK7 mutants are more sensitive to ABA-induced stomatal closure and more tolerant to drought.
- The results demonstrated that functional loss of SlCIPK7 resulted in ABA-hypersensitive stomatal closure and promoted drought tolerance.
- Genomic editing of SlCIPK7 results in more drought-tolerant tomato, making it a good candidate for germplasm improvement.
