Functional Descriptions:

  • We found that MdWUS2 interacted with MdTCP12 in vivo and in vitro and suppressed the ability of MdTCP12 to activate the transcription of its target gene, HOMEOBOX PROTEIN 53b (MdHB53b).
  • MdHB53b expression is down-regulated and shoot branching is induced.
  • Our transient transcriptional activity assays indicated that MdWUS2 could repress the activation of MdHB53b expression by MdTCP12, thereby controlling axillary bud outgrowth.
  • The expression level of the bud-dormancy gene MdHB53b is down-regulated, and hence shoot branching is promoted.
