  • The deduced amino acid sequence of the protein (designated CmCCD4a) encoded by the clone was highly homologous to the sequence of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenase.
  • It may be possible to increase the carotenoid content in petals to make a vivid yellow petal color by completely knocking out the expression of CmCCD4a.
  • Their results suggest that CmCCD4a cleaves these carotenoids into colorless compounds.
