• Considering that dmr6 mutants can provide broad-spectrum resistance to different pathogens, developing CRISPR/Cas9-edited banana with the targeted mutations in the MusaDMR6 orthologues represents a strategy for controlling BXW.
• MusaDMR6 mutants of banana showed enhanced resistance to important disease, BXW, and did not show any detrimental effect on plant growth.
