Gene Details:
- Gene ID: MTR_1g106730
- Gene Symbol: MtZPT2-2
- Gene Name: C2H2 type ZFP
- Genome:
- Species: Medicago truncatula
Functional Descriptions:
- The objectives of this study were to investigate the role of MtZPT2-2 from R108 in regulating salt tolerance using overexpressing lines and gene-edited mutants and the underlying mechanisms. The downstream target genes and physiological changes were also documented.
- MtZPT2-2 expression affected Na+ concentration in xylem sap but not in phloem under salt stress.
- MtZPT2-2 transcription in leaves was reduced after salt stress. Compared with the wild-type (WT), transgenic lines overexpressing MtZPT2-2 had decreased salt tolerance, while MtZPT2-2–knockout mutants showed increased salt tolerance.
- MtZPT2-2 was a transcription repressor in the regulation of salt tolerance.
- Zinc finger transcription factor MtZPT2-2 negatively regulates salt tolerance in Medicago truncatula.
- The results suggest that MtZPT2-2 regulates salt tolerance negatively through downregulating MtHKT1|1 and MtHKT1|2 expression directly to reduce Na+ unloading from the xylem and regulates antioxidant defense indirectly.
