Gene Details:

  • Gene ID:
  • Gene Symbol: MtPI
  • Gene Name: PISTILLATA
  • Genome:
  • Species: Medicago truncatula

Functional Descriptions:

  • The B-class gene PISTILLATA (PI) codes for a MADS-box transcription factor required for floral organ identity in angiosperms.
  • MtPI expression was maintained during the entire process of common primordia compartmentalization and later on during the development of petals and stamens.
  • Together, these results strongly suggest that the phenotype of the mtap mutant is caused by a mutation in the MtPI gene, a conclusion also supported by the fact that the EMS mutant resembles the phenotype of MtPI-RNAi plants with reduced MtPI expression levels.
  • Our analyses show that these genes are required for petal and stamen identity, where MtPI appears to play a predominant role.
